"Let's
talk about sex.", or PART II |
| The second series of sexual observations are courtesy of Charles Parrish who makes the following observations of events in Issue #9. (My own additions to these are marked with a double asterisk **). Matt has already confirmed Charles' comments in the letter column. |

** Kevin and Magda's kiss "awaken" the Pale Incanter from his sleep. One of the Sprig's reply to his anger saying "We thought you was, like, hibernatin' -- all wasted, n' shit." Notice the sperm-like figures at the base of the P.I. (see close-up). Meanwhile, the beast created with Kevin's own energy waits to be unchained.
|
** When Kevin goes to get money, he finds no message from Mirth waiting for him. |
**
Kevin takes out his bat to relieve some tension. Notice the close proximity of the bat to
his waist.. almost like her was unzipping his pants... |
Kevin playing with his bat after leaving the house, working out some frustration. |
** Kevin breaks off a rock in an up-down motion while Joe tells him to go easy -- he'll "scare all the fish away!" Aside from obvious physical allusions, I seem to recall "fish" being slang for sperm. This observation is inspired by Charles' next point... |

| Most of what is mentioned above seems fairly
self-explanatory. However, you may want to read more about the sexual forces surrounding
the Pale Incanter. His "awakening" seems to mirror
Kevin's/Matt's "rising" sexual urge, complete with the generation of sperm.
Mirth's sudden failure to communicate could illustrate Kevin losing contact with his
"Inner Guidance" -- not to sound too spiritualistic, but Mirth still seems to me
to be a allegorical enlightenment figure now acting much as Kevin's intuition or the
cryptic Oracles of the past. The Pale Incanter has stated that the Heroes will come to him -- in the "Other World." It seems likely from the evidence of the Sprig's fleeing into the vulva-like portal, and the chained-up emotions represent by the Beast, that the Hero's "entering" the Pale Incanter's realm could symbolize Kevin's sexual union with Magda and his resultant need to come to terms with his sexual/emotional history. |
