Issue #8 begins with the Hornblower dropping by Kev and Joe's apartment for breakfast. Kevin, seeking a relatively benign task for Garth, sends the slightly over-zealous hero to a cemetary to stand guard. Joe and Kev then leave Wally Ut alone at the apartment as they head out to scout the city. Later that evening, the Hornblower comes under attack in the cemetary -- his call for help brings Kevin and Joe running to find him under assault by Red Caps.


Kevin's particular dislike for these Nasties is clear -- he's had his fair share of bloody exchanges with Red Caps. Unfortunately, as the Red Caps begin to retreat, the Hornblower is dealt a fatal blow with an elf bolt.
Kevin captures a lone Red Cap and interrogates him. The Nasty, fearful for it's life, mentions the Pale Incanter and the forboding claim: "The Mist Is In The Mountain, and Humankind Must Fall."

Seeking help, Kevin pays a visit to Kirby. The Olympian has had no luck with his latest labor so far, and looks as run-down and worn-out as his beer-can strewn apartment. Despite Kevin's news of Garth's death, the evidence of an active hidden power at work against them, and the mountain in their vision, Kirby remains adamant: he will pursue his own quest --

alone.
   

Kevin and Joe walk back to their apartment discussing Kirby and his choices. They have barely stepped through the door when Isis and Wally Ut steer an off-guard Pendragon into the kitchen to meet the striking and 'enchanting' Magda.
