In Issue #6, tension rises dramatically between the gathering heroes. As the story opens, the Sun Twins and the Hornblower bicker over who has claimed (or "staked") the Nasty. As the heroes argue over the "rules of the hunt," they nearly come to blows and the Succubus escapes.

Kevin and Kirby arrive on scene in time to break-up the inter-hero violence, but the issue remains far from resolved. Kevin stresses to the others, "We are not the enemy," but it is readily apparant many heroes are busy pursuing personal glory. After the heroes part ways, Kevin and Kirby walk up to the cross at the top of the mountain park discussing leadership, the gathering and the significance of the mountain from their visit to the Faerie Realms.

While talking at the base of the cross, Kevin and Kirby are attacked by a pack of Hell-Hounds. Their battle is observed by two of the Sprigginflints -- from a safe distance.

As they battle, the Pale Incanter continues draining power from the Pendragon's fear and anger -- power he believes soon to be exhausted. The Incanter transfers the energy into his creation, the Dark Child of Dzoxk, but falls just short of bringing it to life. As the heroes defeat the Hell-Hounds, the Incanter rests to restore his strength.

Joe rejoins the Pendragon and the Olympian and the trio is on their way to contact the Monkey King when a stretch limo pulls up to the trio. From the limo emerges the Dragon-Slayer, who soon challenges Kevin to battle. As Kevin speaks to Joe (explaining he doesn't fight other heroes), the Dragon-Slayer sucker punches him. The two agree to battle in the Financial District.

The Dragon-Slayer, who is physically invulnerable, convinces Kevin to leave his bat outside of the battle. Kevin rises to the bait and is swiftly on the ropes as the "dark" hero lectures him on "true" power. Kevin to leave his bat outside of the battle. In desperation, Kevin summons the bat to his defense and essentially electrocutes the Dragon-Slayer with a power overload.
The victory is not without cost, as Kevin's hand is literally burnt by the bat -- possibly as a warning of sorts against fighting other heroes. Indeed, Mirth once informed Kevin that his power is to serve the struggle between good and evil. This injury could be a result of a literal "abuse of power." animation
The heroes return to their apartment to find Isis visiting and already in residence. After examining Kevin's magic burn, she informs the heroes she is in town to Coven with her sisters -- one whose name Kevin clearly recognizes: Magda.
