Issue
3 follows Kevin, Kirby and Joe to lunch where the trio
swap tales of past encounters with Nasties. Kevin
acknowledges his tendancy to take control and assume a
leadership position at times of crisis. In fact, another hero (John, The Presbyter) had met Kirby previously and mentioned this habit of Kevin's. Wally Ut shortly
arrives and informs Kevin to travel north. After
listening to a bird, the self-proclaimed mage also
informs Kirby that his next "labor" will be
delayed since he had help defeating the Harpies. |

As
the three heroes blow off Wally Ut once again, the Pale
Incanter is busy with -- sculpting!? A
Sprigginflint interrupts his work to report that the 5
brothers lost track of the heroes they were trailing. The
outraged Incanter dismisses his son and then rests to
replenish his diminished energy resources which have been
sapped by -- sculpting?! |

| As Joe goes sniffing to
pick up the scent of nearby Nastys, Kevin and Kirby
indulge in some machismo
show-off stunts. Kevin displays his dexterity with the
bat (Excalibur), and Kirby demonstrates his sheer strength
by lifting Kevin's Edsel over his head. |

| Unknown to Kevin, the Pale Incanter is awakened from his slumber by the Pendragon's use of Excalibur. Although the sensation is obviously painful to the Incanter, he is somehow able to track the hero, possibly via the bat -- much as the Umbra Sprite tracked the mage Mirth by his telltale 'power' signature of pure magic. | ![]() |
Joe
eventually returns with bad news: he can't catch the
scent of any Nastys for quite some distance. Kevin
decides they should visit an old friend of his for advice
-- a witch named Isis, and her giant friend/consort
Gretch. The group gathers in her house for a
brain-storming session. |
| Uncertain of how to continue -- Isis
determines there must be some 'active interference'
thwarting the heroes. She retreats to her study to
concoct something which will help the heroes reach some
greater understanding of the forces at work. She emerges
with a sorcerous spliff for the trio to smoke. |
