* The quotes opening the chapters
in Mage 2 are from Macbeth. Isn't there a trio of witches in Macbeth? Also,
the theme of a three-woman coven hearkens back to the three fates of Greek
mythos. In Issue #10 Cecil Adkins theorizes that the three witches represent
"the ancient maiden/mother/crone imagery...although I don't know if Isis looks so
much like the crone, nor Magda the mother."
** Notice the Grendel mask on the Bear-wulf's t-shirt. In what is considered the
first work of English literature, the Hero Beowulf defeats the monster Grendel (in Heorot)
and some say he becomes the King of the Geats. |
